The primary goal of the Index to Chiropractic Literature is to provide cover-to-cover indexing of peer-reviewed literature from chiropractic publishers. (See Journals Indexed.) Other journals to which writers may wish to submit articles for publication are listed on Peer-Reviewed Publications in Chiropractic and Non Peer-Reviewed Publications in Chiropractic. (A small number of non peer-reviewed chiropractic publications are indexed selectively in ICL.) Please see these three pages for comprehensive information about and links to chiropractic journals and magazines.
ICL is indexed by members of the Chiropractic Library Consortium (CLIBCON), health sciences librarians from chiropractic colleges throughout the world. Subject terms are taken from CLIBCON's thesaurus (ChiroSH: Chiropractic Subject Headings, 5th ed 2008 update) and from the U.S. National Library of Medicine's MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). For our indexing policies, see Inclusion Policies for Index to Chiropractic Literature.
ICL provides full bibliographic records; abstracts are reproduced with publishers' permissions. We provide Web where available. Most full text is available by subscription only; for subscription information link to journal publishers (individual journal entries in Journals Indexed). Selected articles are available free online, and this is noted in individual records. For interlibrary loan, find locations of print journals in chiropractic libraries through Chiropractic Libraries and Colleges.
For a comprehensive history of ICL, see: Harvey PJ. Index to Chiropractic Literature: Twenty -five years of progress. Chiropr Hist 2008 Sum;28(1):83-93. Download the article [publisher permission granted]
