Abdominal aortic aneurysm is a potentially life threatening complaint that is regularly primarily diagnosed in chiropractic clinics. The condition is often asymptomatic (although can present with back pain) and clinical examination for AAA is unreliable. However, a combination of a thorough history, physical examination and radiographic analysis, as demonstrated in this case, offers the clinician the best chance of obtaining an appropriate differential diagnosis or detecting occult AAA.

It is also vital for chiropractors to have an increased awareness of the condition in order that they can identify potential or actual AAA patients and therefore manage and refer cases appropriately.
