Abstract/Notes This paper presents a narrative literature review of provocative discography in chronic low back pain. The literature concerning accuracy and utility, complications, alternatives and use of provocative discography as a determinant for fusion surgery was reviewed. The conclusion is that, at this time, there is insufficient evidence to warrant the recommendation of provocative discography by chiropractors for chronic low back pain patients. There are safer, less costly, less invasive alternatives to discography that show promise and further investigation of the utility of these methods is recommended.
