Method: A review of clinical acupuncture literature for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee with attention to clinical research difficulties such as sham and placebo control trials.

Summary: The clinical research on the benefits of acupuncture for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis in both outcomes and random control trials models has indicated that it can be a useful therapy for patients with moderate or greater osteoarthritis and that side effects are rare.
