Abstract/Notes Reviews are presented of a number of books published during 1999. A variety of publications for the year were selectively sampled by the author as to whether they held relevance to the clinical practice of chiropractic and its contemporary understanding. Fourteen titles were chosen for inclusion in this review, and they address both clinical and professional issues, including ethics, research and philosophy. The review comments are prefaced by commentary on the dichotomy which is perceived within the chiropractic profession between evidence-based practice and the more experiential, empirical practice approach. The conclusion is reached that, given chiropractic is practiced globally, allowance should be made for sociocultural expectations of individual countries.
