Abstract/Notes

First-rib subluxation can cause neck and upper back pain. However, this condition may be underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed because of improper assessment of the cervicothoracic and/or costovertebral junction. This case study emphasizes the importance of examining all structures that can cause pain in an area and examining all structures that can refer pain to a region. Methods of assessment and treatment of the first rib are described.
