Abstract/Notes

This brief article discusses details of D.D. Palmer's written statements about Dr. Jim Atkinson, who, according to Palmer, practiced in Davenport fifty years prior to Palmer's discovery of chiropractic in 1895.  The historical record has not produced any evidence of Dr. Atkinson in Davenport.  A recent find of newspaper ads and city directory listings documents that a Dr. Atkinson practiced in Davenport in 1854.  While no specific conclusion can be made, these findings document the existence of a Dr. Atkinson that has not previously been reported.
