Abstract/Notes

Oakley Smith was the principal author of the two-volume chiropractic textbook titled Modernized Chiropractic. Published in the fall of 1906, it was the most comprehensive chiropractic textbook to date. Smith was a capable writer evidenced by his innovative descriptions of the concept of the chiropractic vertebral subluxation. Smith's 1906 subluxation models appear remarkably similar to the fixation theory described in the 1930's Belgian Chiropractic Research Notes by Henri Gillet. This paper will compare the two concepts.
