Abstract/Notes In a health care environment that increasingly demands evidence of efficacy for reimbursement, chiropractic treatment for somatovisceral conditions remains a troublesome ?gray area.? Many chiropractic anecdotes describe patients? relief from?or even complete resolution of?non-musculoskeletal problems after their DCs had treated musculoskeletal complaints. While some research does exist in the somatovisceral area, it is scant when compared to neuromusculoskeletal conditions.

What is a DC, much less a third-party payer, to make of positive non-MS health care results as an unexpected by-product of treatment for a musculoskeletal complaint?particularly if the doctor was previously completely unaware of the non-MS problem until the patient mentioned an improvement?
