| Objective: To assess the effect of non-force chiropractic methods on pain perception and pressure pain threshold in a patient with wrist injury. Subject:A 46-year-old female with right wrist compaction injury.
Intervention: The subject was treated using a combination of non-force-type chiropractic methods, specifically bioenergetic synchronization technique and body restoration technique. The local pain and muscle strength was evaluated before and after intervention as well as the pain pressure threshold at distance, on an uninvolved site. Results:Both subjective and local objective indicators improved after 5 minutes of treatment and general sensitivity to pain as measured by pressure algometry at distance decreased by 65%. Discussion: In this instance, the combination of the techniques was fast and effective in inducing both local and distant changes in the body that can be objectively measured. We speculate that the energy of the non-force chiropractic procedures applied to the injured area and to specific symmetrical and axial/spinal points combined with a possible autonomic modulation induced by breathing control affects both local and general mechanisms responsible for pain and neuromuscular integration.
