Abstract/Notes This article presents a selective review of research on hypnotic interventions for pain management. Hypnosis in pain control and surgery has a long history, which has been brought up to date with randomised controlled studies of clinical populations. There is now an established body of empirical evidence supporting the use of hypnosis as a clinical intervention for patients with both acute and chronic pain. Methods to better integrate hypnosis into comprehensive pain treatment in a clinical context are discussed. The aim of this paper is to begin a discussion within the chiropractic profession about its suitability as an adjunctive treatment.
