Abstract/Notes Raymond L. Nimmo, D.C., the developer of the Receptor-Tonus Technique, was a controversial figure in the chiropractic world because his method flew in the face of orthodox chiropractic of the time. He felt that many practitioners were merely pounding away at the spine without thinking that it may be a receptor or tonus problem with a muscle. Yet after the smoke cleared, the method gained popularity and acceptance as a refreshing look at an alternative way to correct nerve interference. Although Dr. Nimmo was a controversial character, he helped to advance the chiropractic profession through his research, teaching, and technique. Dr. Nimmo’s ideas were so innovative that even today his technique is cutting-edge science.
