Introduction: In March 1982, the author was invited to comment on possible modifications to the prototype seating in British Rail's Advanced Passenger Train (APT).
Part of the involvement was purely practical in providing head and neck profile data on which to base an optimized head rest design. This was conducted in the author's Chiropractic Clinic and is reported elsewhere in this issue (page 197).
The other function was theoretical, and entailed looking at the 'seated posture', with regard to comfort, from an anatomical and physiological point of view, in order to assist in any 'fine tuning' of the relatively new seat profile in the APT.
