Abstract/Notes | Objective: To document clinical changes in neutrophils after regular chiropractic adjustments in a patient with an anterior mediastinal plasmacytoma receiving injections of Carfilzomib (Kyprolis®) twice weekly. Clinical Features: A 48-year-old female with low back pain, headaches, dizziness, and a persistent cough secondary to recently diagnosed pneumonia presented to a chiropractic clinic with signs of vertebral subluxation. Throughout the course of care, she was diagnosed with an anterior mediastinal plasmacytoma. Intervention and Outcomes: Diversified technique chiropractic adjustments were performed in order to address the subluxations present in this patient. IV Carfilzomib and a stem cell transplant were administered medically. The patient experienced a decrease in low back pain, headaches, and dizziness, and maintained normal blood neutrophil percentages throughout receiving injections of Carfilzomib with regular diversified chiropractic adjustments. The anterior mediastinal plasmacytoma decreased in size from 16.8 x 11.9 x 7.4 cm to 6.3 x 5.7 x 3.9 cm. Conclusion: While there is limited research on the effect of chiropractic care on the immune system, studies, including this one, have shown that chiropractic adjustments may have an effect on immune cells. It is an important area that is in need of further research.
