Abstract/Notes

Homecoming is an event meant to encourage alumni to return to their alma mater.  It is a tradition in many high schools and institutions of higher learning throughout North America and is a long-standing tradition at Palmer College of Chiropractic.  Its origins at Palmer date to just after D.D. Palmer had graduated enough students to warrant such an event.  B.J. Palmer added an educational program to the annual gathering of chiropractors and named it "Lyceum." Massive attendance at homecomings for many of his years at the helm helped maintain his authority in the profession.  David Palmer continued the tradition of the lyceum but in an effort to mainstream the image of the school, he once again referred to it simply as homecoming.  Today, new generations of chiropractors view the annual event as an opportunity to reconnect with Palmer, rekindle friendships, and earn many of their required continuing education credits.
