Abstract/Notes

Objective: To describe the chiropractic care of a teenage male with a chief complain of nocturnal enuresis and additional complaints of low back and upper back pain.

Clinical Features: A 17-year-old male presented for chiropractic consultation and possible care for low back and upper back pain. The patient’s pain complaint was attributed to sports injury (i.e., hockey). In addition to his pain complaints, the patient suffered from chronic nocturnal enuresis since early childhood. Medical care and acupuncture were ineffective.

Intervention and Outcome: The patient was cared for with high-velocity, low amplitude thrust type adjustments a la toggle recoil and drop table technique to reduce vertebral subluxations. Following the 12th visit, it was revealed that the patient did not experience any wet nights since starting chiropractic care. The patient responded well to care and following 24 visits over a 4-month duration, and reported complete resolution of his bedwetting and back pain by the 12th visit.

Conclusion: This case report provides supporting evidence on the benefits of chiropractic care for children with nocturnal enuresis.
