Abstract/Notes

Objective: The purpose of this case study is to describe the chiropractic care of a child with chronic constipation.

Clinical Features: A 3 ½ -year-old female was presented for chiropractic evaluation with the complaint of chronic constipation. Vertebral subluxations in the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacroiliac regions were identified.

Intervention and Outcomes: The patient received care utilizing a manually assisted hand held instrument over eight visits. Cervical, thoracic and lumbar subluxations were assessed and adjusted on each visit. Within three weeks, she experienced complete resolution of the constipation and was fully potty trained.

Conclusions: This case study describes the course of chiropractic care for a child experiencing constipation.  Chiropractic care may be beneficial in this population and more research is warranted in this area.
