Abstract/Notes

Objective: To chronicle the improvement in physical functioning in a 50-year-old female hemorrhagic stroke patient receiving Torque Release Technique (TRT) for the assessment and correction of vertebral subluxation.

Clinical Features: A 50-year-old female with a 10-month history of left hemiplegia following a hemorrhagic stroke. The cause of the stroke was iatrogenic. Postural alterations, reduction in cervical ranges of motion (ROM) and reduced left C5-T1 myotome strength was found in conjunction with indicators of vertebral subluxation throughout the spine.

Intervention and Outcome: Chiropractic care using TRT was provided for the assessment and correction of vertebral subluxations. The patient reported subjective improvement in strength and physical functioning. Objective improvement in posture, cervical ROM, muscle strength and surface electromyography studies, and reduction of indicators of vertebral subluxation were recorded.

Conclusion: A course of chiropractic care, using TRT for the assessment and correction of vertebral subluxation, was associated with improvement in motor function and a reduction in dysponesis in a 50-year-old female following a hemorrhagic stroke.
