Abstract/Notes

Today, chiropractic and sports have close ties with each other with many professional sports teams as well as non-professional athletes using chiropractic to keep them healthy. The International Chiropractors Association's Athletic Commission was created in 1951 to foster a relationshiop between chiropractors and sports.  The Commission had seven districts, all directed by chiropractors and past athletes.  The objective of the Commission was to develop proper training for chiropractors in treating athletes while promoting chiropractic for the athletes themselves.  The Commission hoped to collaborate with sports chiropractic research to best serve athletes.  While the Commission was short-lived, their efforts continue in the present through developed programs to better educate sports chiropractic through training and research.
