Objective: This case study describes the effects of chiropractic-based care for a 20-year-old male athlete suffering from post-concussion syndrome.

Clinical Features: A 20-year-old male athlete presented to a chiropractic office with complaints of headache, nausea, dizziness, and diplopia. The patient suffered a sports related concussion 16 days prior to presentation, his third concussion in five years. The diagnosis of post-concussion syndrome was given based on the presenting symptoms and time since the concussion.

Intervention and Outcomes: Chiropractic adjustments using Thompson technique were utilized in the treatment of this patient in conjunction with neuromuscular electrical stimulation following each adjustment. The patient was seen nine times over five weeks, experiencing a 50% reduction in symptoms after the first adjustment. The patient presented as asymptomatic after one week of care with no recurrence of symptoms through the duration of the care plan.

Conclusion: This case study suggests that chiropractic care, in conjunction with other therapeutic modalities, may be useful in the co-management of post-concussion syndrome.
