Abstract/Notes

Objective: To discuss the chiropractic management of a patient with severe menstrual symptoms who was treated with Logan Basic Technique.

Clinical Features: A 28-year-old female had a long history of debilitating menstrual symptom, including severe cramping (10/10 on pain scale), headaches and heavy menstrual flow lasting nearly 9 days each cycle. She sought chiropractic care in an academic chiropractic clinic for routine maintenance care and inquired about Logan technique to attempt to address her menstrual symptoms.

Intervention and Outcome: She was treated with Logan technique for 6 months. Her menstrual symptoms reduced after 2 visits involving Logan technique and continued to make progress with consistent care. The patient initially scored 76.6 out of 100 on a quadruple visual analog scale (QVAS) where a score of over 50 is considered high intensity pain. After 2 months of treatment, her QVAS score decreased to a low intensity of 33. After a 1-week break in care prior to her next cycle, her symptoms returned but with less intensity than before treatment.

Conclusion: The patient received Logan care and responded positively. Logan technique can potentially be a beneficial, low force approach to treating patients with severe menstrual symptoms and chiropractors may consider implementing it into practice.
