William J. Rademacher, D.C., served on the Illinois Medical Licensing Board from 2002 to 2014, one of only three mixed professional boards in the United States. He was a Palmer College graduate and a member of the Illinois Prairie State Chiropractic Association when appointed, which was unusual in a board historically dominated by National University alumni. His tenure included leadership roles and key initiatives such as securing licensure for an international chiropractic graduate through a rules variance, advocating for pediatric chiropractic continuing education, adding NBCE Part IV to licensure requirements, and introducing the Ethics and Boundaries Assessment Services (EBAS) exam for ethics and boundary violations across the health professions. This insider account highlights the political, procedural, and interprofessional challenges of chiropractic participation in Illinois's integrated medical licensing system.
