Objective: To describe the care and positive health outcomes of an adult female with irregular menstrual cycles, dysmenorrhea and low back pain receiving subluxation-based chiropractic care.
Clinical Features: A 28-year-old female working student who has had delayed menstrual cycles that are painful and symptomatic for three years and has been suffering from low back pain at the levels of L1-L2 for more than two years. Prolonged sitting, bending and doing exercises increase her low back pain.
Interventions and Outcomes: Vertebral subluxation was found at various spinal levels throughout the care. The patient had reduced lumbar range of motion during the initial examination. The patient was adjusted via Sherman Package Protocol. The patient’s menstrual cycles became regularly spaced at 28 days and were symptom-free. The low back pain improved significantly under care as well.
Conclusion: The research on the effect of chiropractic care on conditions such as oligomenorrhea and dysmenorrhea have shown that specific chiropractic adjustments can be beneficial and improve related symptomatology. Further research is recommended to explore the value of chiropractic care for female patients with oligomenorrhea and dysmenorrhea with or without musculoskeletal complaints.
