The purpose of this paper is to review the literature which pertains to the hypothesis of cervical subluxations and their influence on low back pain. Many practitioners use exclusively an upper cervical technique and remain successful in treating low back pain patients. There are several theories as to why cervical subluxations are related to low back pain. Also, many case studies support this hypothesis; however, there have been no blinded, controlled, or random studies to prove or disprove this hypothesis.
