Abstract/Notes There continues to be a huge gap between clinical research and clinical practice in the healthcare professions, and chiropractic is no exception to this. Since its emergence at the beginning of the 1990s, the evidence-based practice (EBP) model has been compromised by many clinicians failing to apply research evidence in the treatment of individual patients, and by many researchers failing to disseminate their findings in a way that empowers clinicians to use the evidence. The debate surrounding the compatibility of good clinical practice and good clinical research seems as vigorous today as it was almost twenty years ago; a recent editorial1 on: ‘The evidence-based health care debate — 2006; where are we now?’ illustrates the depth of feeling among clinicians, and their inability or unwillingness to take heed of research evidence as an integral part of their clinical practice.
