Abstract/Notes

Objective: To provide a detailed report of a patient with hot flashes and right-sided sciatic pain under upper cervical subluxation based National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA) chiropractic care.

Clinical Features: A 57-year-old female presented to a private NUCCA chiropractic practice with a chief complaint of right-sided sciatic pain and approximately 10 hot flashes per day.

Intervention and Outcomes: Nine upper cervical adjustments were delivered over a period of 12 visits in 6 weeks. The patient reported complete resolution of hot flashes and improvement in sciatic pain at 6 weeks.

Conclusion: The upper cervical subluxation may be a contributing factor to hot flashes and sciatic pain. Reduction of the subluxation with specific vectored correction may help not only to reduce pain in the pelvis and legs, but also may help physiological processes with hormone regulation in menopausal women. More research is warranted investigating the effects of upper cervical care and hot flashes.
