Abstract/Notes

Objective: To report on the positive health outcomes following chiropractic care for the management of vertebral subluxation in a patient with adult onset attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and to review the related literature.

Clinical Features: A 38-year-old male patient presented with a chief complaint of chronic headaches and adult onset attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). He was taking Adderall, OxyContin, and Lortabs. The patient was examined and vertebral subluxations with related dysautonomia were found.

Intervention and Outcomes: Over the course of two months, chiropractic adjustments were applied to the patient using Torque Release Technique (TRT). The patient reported a resolution of all ADHD symptoms. Follow-up QVAS score was decreased from 60 to 36. The patient’s goals of being able to focus and exercise were met, he had an 80% improvement of his symptoms and there was an improvement in dysautonomia. He remains under chiropractic care at the time of report and was able to stop taking medications for ADHD.

Conclusion: The positive results in this case indicate that chiropractic should be considered in the management of adult patients with ADHD. Further research should be performed utilizing chiropractic adjustments for patients with adult-onset ADHD.
