Objective: To report on the positive health outcomes in a female patient with ataxia who presented for chiropractic care.

Clinical Features: A 64-year-old female patient diagnosed with subacute progressive ataxia presented to the office for care. The patient had no ability to stand or walk and arrived bound to a wheelchair for two months.  She suffered from dizziness, progressively unsteady gait, paresthesia, vertigo, migraines, neck and back pain. A case history and chiropractic examination was performed and it was determined the patient had vertebral subluxations at the levels of C1, C5, T2 and sacrum.

Intervention and Outcome: Patient was placed under chiropractic care for a month and was adjusted nine times. The patient began walking without any difficulty and was able to return to work. She noted absence of motor weakness and tingling in the lower extremities.  She also noted decrease in presence of low back and neck pain.

Conclusion: The findings presented in this study suggest that the chiropractic care may play a role in the management of patients who suffer from ataxia. Further research is indicated.
