The World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization recommends intake of a minimum of 400 grams or five servings of fruit and vegetables per day for the prevention of chronic diseases such as heart diseases, cancer, diabetes, and obesity. In 2011, the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics reported that 42.1 million patients recieved prescription medication for hypertension and 11 million for diabetes mellitus.
