Abstract/Notes

Objective: To review the outcome of subluxation based care on a patient suffering with otitis media, constipation and sleep disturbance and to provide a current review of the literature on otitis media and chiropractic.

Clinical Features: A 2-year-old female presented with a history of concurrent ear infections accompanied with fever. The first episode occurred when the patient was one month old, and the patient had been under regular antibiotic use. The patient was presented for chiropractic care in hopes of avoiding tympanostomy tubes.

Intervention and Outcome: The chiropractic care consisted of chiropractic care using MC2 Technique utilizing an Integrator hand held adjusting instrument. The main goal was to assess, locate, and reduce vertebral subluxations. After 36 visits, the patient’s otitis media was resolved. The patient is still under chiropractic wellness care and is still free from otitis media.

Conclusion: Otitis media is a disease that affects a large percentage of children each year. This case study will be added to the already standing research to show a possible beneficial link to management of otitis media through subluxation based chiropractic care. However, larger studies need to be conducted to show a correlation between chiropractic care and the resolution of otitis media.
